Allison's work has appeared in publications including Best Australian Poems, The Big Issue Fiction Edition, Overland, Australian Love Stories and Going Down Swinging.
A graduate of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), Allison has written within the arts as a theatre and arts critic, contributing to Kill Your Darlings, Literary Minded, Indie London, The Enthusiast, and has worked as a music columnist for ArtsHub.
Her poetry and fiction has been shortlisted for the Dorothy Porter Award for Poetry, the Overland Neilma Sidney Short Story Prize, the Eyre Short Fiction Award, the Carmel Bird Short Fiction Award, the Alan Marshall Short Fiction Award, the Martha Richardson Poetry Prize (twice) and the Aesthetica UK Creative Writing Award (twice).
Her novel in progress was awarded the 2021Varuna Eleanor Dark Flagship Fellowship and has been supported by a Glenfern Fellowship and an Australian Association of Authors Mentorship.
Allison works within the metal health and wellbeing sector, for a not-for-profit organisation and in private practice. She is from Perth, the Whadjuk region of Noongar country, and now currently lives in Melbourne with her rescue cat Wallis. Within Australia, the unceded sovereign land Allison principally writes on is that of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation.
